Things To Do in Ibiza

1.  Explore Old Town Dalt Vila, Ibiza

If you are a history person, visiting Dalt Vila is the place to start your trip to Ibiza. Visiting the historic church here provides visitors an opportunity to make a half-day journey or even more out of the Old Town.

Dalt Vila, famously known as the historic quarter of Ibiza, provides you a chance to look at the captivating portion of the town that is genuinely a UNESCO World patrimonial place. With the literal meaning of “High Town,” Dalt Vila has the prestige of being the highest and the oldest part of town – it’s also one of the most impressive cities in Spain.

It is guarded by impressive Renaissance fortifications, built around the island’s main town in the 16th century by Spanish Emperor Charles V. People built these walls to fend off Berber looters and protect against invasion by neighboring sovereign French forces.

You can also take a short trip to these fortifications, where you will be guided through history on what happened during the fort’s prime of life. Each of these bastions depicts its own story.

For instance, Santa Lucia has a powder magazine from the 18th century and holds commands for the vistas over the harbor and the fishing district. Expect a splendid view of the fishing quarters and the port.

If you want to visit Dalt Vila properly, you need to go upward after passing through the main gate of the fortifications for a stellar view. Upon reaching Dalt Vila, you can enjoy additional fantastic views with gleaming structures covered with whitewash, giant cacti, and lovely flowers.

The main entrance of the town, known as la Puerta del Mar (or Portal de Ses Taules), referring to “the gate of the Sea” or “the door of Boards” respectively, depicts a monumental structure with an arch shape.

Creating a cobweb of fascinating walkways inside the town, the entrance contains two models of Roman statues and Philip II’s emblems, both of which are photo-worthy.

Additionally, it has a stone on which the name of the king and governor of the 16th century are engraved, which is carefully preserved by the town. The streets of the old town have several medieval restaurants and are lined by shops, museums, galleries, and attractive whitewashed buildings.
