Viñales is one of my favorite day trips from Havana – just two hours to the west of the city, the gorgeous Viñales National Park is famed for its rocky “mogotes” – towering limestone karsts – that make for stunning scenery. Viñales is also home to some of the best tobacco farms in the country, making for another popular, can’t-miss-it excursion.
While perfect for a day trip, Viñales is best enjoyed more slowly, spending at least one night in town or inside the park. With Viñales such a draw for visitors, plenty of locals rent rooms or entire homes – “casas particulares” – which are the most popular places to stay for the night.
What is a casa particular?
A casa particular is a room for rent or entire property for rent by a local, like Airbnbs. Casas particulares have been popular places to stay in Cuba long before Airbnb came around, though the idea is the same.
Casas particulares range from a spare bedroom in a local’s home to private mansions with pools – either way, they’re the best places to stay in Cuba!
I have the best luck finding casas particulares for rent on, ironically, Hotels.com! This is a platform that has long been used by Cuban casa particular owners, and they have by far the most listings of casas particulares for rent.

Casa Nenita
Casa Nenita is one of the nicer casas particulares Viñales has to offer, complete with wifi in the lobby (always a plus for Cuba!) and a fantastic swimming pool outside. You’ll also find a rooftop terrace with lounge chairs and tables with umbrellas, all with an unbeatable view of the mogotes and national park.
Casa Nenita is also centrally located just two blocks away from the main street in Viñales, so you’ll just be steps away from everything you’d want to do in town. The front porch with its rocking chairs are perfect for people watching.
Finca Media Luna
Set inside the national park at the base of the towering mogotes, Finca Media Luna is one of the most unique places to stay in Viñales. Here you’re steps away from nature.
Alongside the farmhouse there is also a covered terrace and bar to enjoy the scenery – it’s the perfect, lush getaway to enjoy nature and the beauty of the national park. There aren’t many places quite like it in Cuba.
Rooms are modern and comfortable, with views of the mountains and landscape. Plan on eating the homecooked food at Finca Media Luna as well – delicious and fresh!
Casa Diana y Maykel
Casa Diana y Maykel is a fantastic spot in the center of Viñales with nice but simple rooms in a newer construction home with a pool. Diana and Maykel are excellent hosts and go out of their way to make guests feel welcomed and have a great time in Viñales.
Diana’s home cooking is amazing and definitely recommended for a meal during your stay. Internet available in the house is a major plus!
Villa Tomasa
Villa Tomasa is the perfect place to feel right at home in Viñales – the owners and hosts are an older married couple that will instantly make you feel like you’ve gained two new Cuban grandparents.
Relaxing on the patio in the garden is a highlight – the garden is filled with fruits and vegetables that become the stars of Tomasa’s home cooking. Villa Tomasa is on the edge of town but within walking distance of everything you’d need. Highly recommended!

Casa El Porry
This guest house with four rooms is a favorite in Viñales, and the owners do a fantastic job of going out of their way for guests. The rooms at Casa El Porry are very comfortable and have everything you’d want or need for a fantastic stay…but the real star of the show here is the view.
The view from the rooftop terrace over the mogotes in the valley is unparalleled and worth the stay alone – you won’t want to miss morning coffee or evening drinks from the large terrace, complete with rocking chairs. Plus, there is air conditioning and a pool to cool off after a hot day.
Casa Orlando y Juana
Casa Orlando y Juana is a simple yet comfortable place to stay in Viñales with lovely hosts. Their home cooking is delicious and breakfasts are highly recommended.
Plus, Casa Orlando y Juana is located on the street that leads to one of the main entrances of the park used for excursions and tours, so it’s a perfect location for getting to know the area. The unobstructed views of the mogotes and surrounding countryside from the back patio are incredible.

Lovely! I visited Vinales back in 2003 but didn´t stay the night. Been really wanting to go back to Cuba one day, definitely saving this for then – loved Vinales, o laid back and beautiful landscape 🙂

OMG I really wish I read your blogpost before I went to Cuba in 2016! My first night in Vinales was awful because I stayed in a very bad place (my room had no window, it felt like a prison)! Those casa particular look fantastic!
